SUPERVISORY RECREATION SPECIALIST NF-0188-03 I. INTRODUCTION This position is located in the NCBC GULFPORT, MS. Welfare and Recreation Department, Recreation Division. The purpose of this position is to manage the daily operation of the assigned Recreation/Internet/liberty centers and any other affiliated programs located therein. II MAJOR DUTIES Responsible for the operation of the assigned internet/Recreation center and Single-Sailor recreation programs, which may include Liberty program, theater, food and beverage service, etc. Develops and administer a variety of programs serving the needs of a diverse customer base, and ensures services and programs support target patron areas. Oversees programs, tournaments and special events, evaluates and develops goals and objectives, and recommends changes to current programs or establishment of new ones. Ensures that services, programs and facilities are efficiently scheduled, properly staffed and met the needs of the service population. Keeps chain of command properly advised at all times. Provides input into preparation of annual NAFbudgets. Ensures all funds are properly utilized in accordance with established regulations and guidelines. Ensures any government credit card use is appropriate and that all record keeping is within command mandates. Prepares and submit purchase orders, vouchers, work orders and contracts. Establishes and maintains internal controls over all property, equipment and supplies of the assigned facility. Ensures all equipment, services and furniture are properly maintained, repaired, and/or replace as needed and continually inspects facilities. Ensures all trouble calls are made promptly, repairs or maintenance is performed and timely follow-up is accomplished. Maintains records and files in both print and electronic formats. Responsible for all aspects of management correspondence and generates reports as required by the command and/or higher authority. Maintains an up-to-date library of reference and resource materials. Dispose of files, records and directives that are obsolete, outdated or superseded. Develops and maintain program-related database. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Knowledge gained through relevant education and training (i.e., Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Marketing, Business or closely related field) and/or equivalent recreation related work experience. Combination of experience related to customer service and/or activity based functions. Ability to work independently, to make sound decisions, and have the ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Knowledge of recreational programs. Knowledge of the goals, principles, techniques, and methods of procedure used in organizing, planning, and conducting all types of activities. Knowledge of the entire scope of activities and their suitability in the Community Recreation Program for individuals and groups of varying demographics, ages, and interests. Ability to maintain a clear and accurate database. Ability to represent the department and speak in front of both small and large groups. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Must have the physical stamina to work outside, sometimes in the heat and cold, and must be able to lift objects up to 40 lbs. Position requires successful completion of a satisfactory National Agency background screening and issuance of a CAC card.
